The Game Awards 2021 Records Some Of its Best Viewership Figures of All-Time

This year saw a massive launch of some of the best video games released throughout the calendar. And when it comes to celebrating so many titles, there’s no other best platform than The Game Awards event. Well, it seems like 2021 was a pretty major year for not just games but the fast-growing event itself. The host of the reputed awards, Geoff Keighley, recently revealed that this year the event gained a record viewership, thus amassing 85 million live streams.

The official news came from Geoff Keighley’s Twitter account. He shared a summary of viewership figures for The Game Awards 2021 and mentioned details about the record watch time, user tweets, and also viewers’ votes.

We’re thrilled to share that #TheGameAwards delivered a record 85 million livestreams in 2021.

The Game Awards 2021 becomes a big hit!

The Game Awards event of this year proved to be a massive hit across the globe, as seen in above tweet. What’s even more remarkable about 2021’s event is that it outgrew last year’s awards show. The Game Awards in 2020 had gained 83 million views while this year the show reached the mark of 85 million livestreams. On YouTube, the show witnessed about 1.75 million hours of watch time, on the main feed, which is 14 percent over 2020.

Speaking of the high-profile appearances, then The Game Awards saw personalities like The Matrix’s Keanu Reeves and Carrie Anne-Moss. Apart from them, Death Stranding’s celebrated developer Hideo Kojima, actor Jim Carrey, Ben Schwartz, director Guillermo del Toro, Shang-Chi star Simu Liu, and Far Cry 6’s Giancarlo Esposito were also there. For those who are not aware, Esposito played the chief antagonist Anton Castillo in the sixth Far Cry entry that released in October. The well-received game even grabbed three nominations, but didn’t win, unfortunately.

This year’s The Game Awards saw It Takes Two taking home the coveted trophy of Game of the Year. The family-themed title from Hazelight Studios was also one of the best rated games throughout 2021. Talking about the in-person event itself, then it took place at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles.
