Taiwan Star Telecom is set to boost the number of its 5G service subscribers to account for 20% of its overall users or more than 550,000 subscribers by the end of 2021, up from nearly 5% at the moment.

Since its 5G services began in August 2020, Taiwan Star has gained over 120,000 5G subscribers.

Taiwan Star had 230,000 new users in 2020 with its overall subscriber base already surpassing 2.55 million in the year, accounting for almost 9% of Taiwan’s 29.3 million mobile service users.

To further boost its 5G user base in 2021, the telecom carrier has offered new subscription packages with more flexible pricing. It also plans to complete establishment of 6,000 base stations across Taiwan before year-end with a coverage rate reaching almost 90% in urban areas.

Taiwan Star is looking to expand its user base to four million within five years.

Its competitor Chunghwa Telecom (CHT) is set to increase the number of its 5G users to two million by the end of 2021, while Far Eastone Telecommunications (FET) and Taiwan Mobile will see their combined 5G user number reach three million.
