Almarie C. Laird, 81, of Townsend, DE., formerly of Staten Island, passed Friday, Feb. 24. Interment was privately held. For the full obituary, click here.

Judith Gail Matulewicz, 75, a longtime Staten Island resident, died on Nov. 20, 2022. In 1969, she graduated from the Mary McClellan Hospital School of practical nursing. She continued serving as a L.P.N. for 40 years, first at St. Vincent’s Hospital, and then at Richmond University Medical Center, before retiring in 2011. She enjoyed watching her favorite baseball and football teams and reading on her kindle. For the full obituary, click here.

Dorothea Melvin, 95, of Greensburg, PA, formerly of Staten Island, passed away on Feb. 25. The mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother of 14, was born on Staten Island to Charles R. and Anna L. (Bettenhauser) Weidner. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, James C. Melvin, and her two brothers, Joseph and Ferdinand Weidner. For the full obituary, click here.

YESTERDAY’S OBITUARIES:

Robert Christopher Pisano, Sr., 76, passed away on Feb. 26, 2023, surrounded by his loving family in Monroe Township, N.J. He started as an English teacher at I.S. 27 and Tottenville High School before becoming an assistant principal at I.S. 34 and I.S. 7. He also worked as an adjunct professor at community colleges in New York and New Jersey. After his retirement, Bob spent several years as a supervisor of student teachers at The College of New Jersey, Ramapo College and Rider University. A graduate of Curtis High School, Bob received his undergraduate degree from Hunter College before earning his doctorate from Rutgers University. Bob moved to New Jersey when he married his wife Karen Hochron in 1990, first residing in Cranbury before settling in Monroe Township. Always ready with a pearl of wisdom from his kitchen, Bob taught countless amateur pizzaiolos that, “The pizza is our friend”. For the full obit, click here.
