Marywood Outlasts Bryant to Reach Rocket League Finals

Scranton, Pa. — Marywood University advanced to the NECC Rocket League championship game in its inaugural esports season. The third-seeded Pacers defeated No. 7 Bryant University (Gold) in a thrilling 3-2 victory to reach the Emergents Yellow division final.

Trailing by one game, the Pacers emerged with two straight victories to defeat the Bulldogs in a deciding fifth set.

In the fifth and final game, Marywood shut out Bryant 3-0 behind a defensive effort by James Marsh and Kyle Jenkins. Marsh scored a team-high 626 points for the match with two goals and an assist with three saves. Jenkins made a pair of saves.

With a 2-1 deficit, Marywood evened the score with a 3-2 victory in the fourth. The Pacers delivered 12 shots and were able to get past a Bryant defense that tallied seven saves. All three Marywood players scored in the match-saving win.

The Pacers were unable to score in each of their losses. Bryan won the first game 2-0 and took the third game with a 1-0 decision.

Marywood evened the match in the second with a 4-1 win. Marsh tallied 527 points on two goals and an assist. Jenkins finished with a brace for 424 points.

In the regular season between Marywood and New England, the Pacers defeated the Pilgrims by a 3-1 score.
