G2 Esports Unveils Carlos’ CEO Replacement, Leadership Shake-Up

G2 Esports finally has a new CEO – and a whole new leadership team.

G2 Esports has announced its new senior leadership team, changing up its CEO, chief operating officer, and chief financial officer after a meeting between the brand’s board of directors. With it, the team has announced both new and renewed focuses for the coming year, which sees it expanding its operations in North America.

After holding executive positions at the organization for the last two years–including, most recently, a role as G2’s managing director–Alban Dechelotte has been promoted to CEO. The new figurehead brings experience from key roles at Riot Games, Coca-Cola, Havas, and PwC.

Dechelotte fills a role that has been vacant for nearly four months, following the departure of Carlos “ocelote” Rodriguez, who stepped down in September 2022 after controversially partying with Andrew Tate, the American-British influencer currently detained in Romania over allegations of sexual assault and exploitation.

With its latest appointment, G2 hopes to put “powerful stories” at the forefront of its brand ethos, as well as a key focus on “celebrating and promoting the diverse and unique talents forming the G2 organisation.”

The esports giant also sees Sabrina Ratih join the company on a permanent basis as chief operating officer, having temporarily served as the team’s interim commercial director between 2021 and 2022. She retains her role as managing director of the Berlin-based consulting firm Value of We, which she founded in 2018.

Elsewhere, Philippe Adam has been promoted from his role of financial director to chief financial officer, having impressed the organization with his role in negotiating and managing a number of strategic, financial, and acquisitive initiatives for G2 in recent months.

Dechelotte said: “G2 is truly a unique esports organisation, consistently pushing boundaries in competition and entertainment. Our legacy is rich with its combination of unforgettable finals and powerful stories captivating the world. I feel privileged to serve the G2 Army of our fans, players, creators and staff in this mission to unleash the potential of G2 to fight for all trophies and beyond.”

Ratih added: “I’ve always been very attached to G2 since Value of We started working for the company in 2018. Since then everyone at G2 always maintained the same huge ambitions, drive and high-performance attitude that still fuel the company to this day.

“It’s incredibly rewarding to see how we’re continuing to develop and grow our global audience outside the parameters of esports, build new digital touch points and leverage our entertainment verticals as a multiplier. I‘m excited for this new challenge and look forward to shaping our next period of growth with the whole G2 collective.”

The announcement follows a number of developments for G2 Esports across both esports and entertainment. In December, it unveiled an all-new team to compete in the Valorant Challengers North America league; earlier this month, G2 released its second anthem in as many years with the alt-rock single “Detonate”, featuring the vocals of TikTok star Jeris Johnson and Theresa Jarvis from English rock band Yonaka.
