COVID-19 continues to surface in Huron Perth as vaccinations continue

Public Health officials added seven new cases of of COVID-19 in Huron Perth Thursday

Huron Perth Public Health reported 18 active cases and one hospitalization. Five new cases were confirmed in Perth South, one in Stratford and one in St. Marys.

The outbreak continues at Seaforth Manor.

“This outbreak has been a little complex, with additional cases added over time, however, fortunately people don’t seem to be getting as ill, perhaps I think, because the vaccine program has started there,” said Huron Perth Medical Officer of Health Dr. Miriam Klassen.

In total, there are three active cases in North Huron, one in Goderich, four in North Perth, six in Perth Sound, one in St. Marys and two in Stratford.

The Stratford Jail outbreak continues along with one workplace outbreak.

The medical officer of Health for Huron Perth says clinics to administer first doses of COVID-19 vaccine to to all retirement home residents should complete the job by the end of this week. Dr. Miriam Klassen says vaccines were already distributed to residents in long term care and high risk retirement homes.

She adds vaccine clinics were also held this week for eligible long term care and retirement home staff and essential caregivers in Clinton, Stratford, Goderich and Listowel.

“Additional clinics will continue for the above groups, as well as the highest priority health care workers next week,” she said.

“So vaccinations are continuing for healthcare workers as prioritized by provincial guidance. Timelines will depend on vaccine supply and availability, but we anticipate to start vaccinating community seniors 80 plus by mid March, she added.

She said those who are eligible will be contacted, and once they are ready for people over 80 in the community, that information will be widely promoted.
