When it comes to furnishing your kids’ rooms, there’s a lot to consider, from aesthetics to creativity and of course, safety. The options online can be overwhelming from big box stores to small boutiques. When it comes to furniture, it’s important to consider the eventual setup process, how difficult assembly will be, and how many pieces your furniture will arrive in.

Luckily, while the options are unlimited, there are tons of great retailers to start your search, with helpful search terms and an organized site directory.

To help streamline your search, we researched online retailers that offer a wide range of kids’ furniture that’s stylish but also made of quality materials, whether you’re searching for a new crib, rocking chair, or changing table.

HONEY JOY Toddler Bed Frame

What We Like

  • 2-day free shipping with Amazon Prime

  • Lots of reviews to read

  • Can filter by rating, price, color and more

What We Don’t Like

  • Overwhelming selection

  • Not many name brand options

There’s not much you can’t find on Amazon, so it’s natural to start there when on the search for kids’ furniture. Luckily, the online retailer has just about everything you could need to furnish a new nursery or tween’s bedroom. And we mean everything. With such an overwhelming selection, we recommend taking to the search bar and typing exactly what you’re looking for. Because of this, Amazon may not be the best option for casual browsing or design inspiration. Instead, take to Amazon when you know what piece you’re missing to make your space feel whole.

From bookshelves to night lights and cribs, you are guaranteed to find a great option within your price range. Filter by price, color, and even rating. Because Amazon is so popular, there are so many reviews to look through during your buying process, which other retailers don’t have. Also, you may not find too many name brands on Amazon, but you’re guaranteed to find a new item that immediately impresses you. The best perk, however, is 2-day free shipping on almost every item with Amazon Prime. You can’t beat it. And if you want to snag a good deal, wait until Prime Day, which happens every year, and save big.

Types: Various | Shipping Rates: Free 2-day shipping with Amazon Prime | Delivery Time: 2 days or less with Amazon Prime | Return Policy: Returnable up to 30 days | Customer Service Options: Phone

uyoyous 5 Tier 360° Rotating Bookshelf

What We Like

  • Can organize by delivery time

  • In-person option

  • Recognizable brands

What We Don’t Like

  • Not as many unique or stylish options

For those who want an in-person option every once in a while, look to Walmart. The one-stop superstore has everything you need to clothe, feed, and furnish your children and their rooms. You definitely won’t break the bank when shopping for dressers, changing tables, and decor pieces from popular brands like Mainstays, Costway, Delta Children, and more.

We love the retailer’s fun storage solutions, like this rotating bookshelf, for storing toys, stuffed animals, books, collectibles, and other bedroom essentials. The website makes it easy to filter for what you’re looking for, with badges highlighting bestsellers and green text marking limited-time deals. In addition to the classic filters you find on most sites, you can also organize by speed or when your item will arrive, which is great for last-minute decorating. Shipping generally takes about three days, with a curbside pickup option if you have a Walmart store near you.

There’s no real downside when shopping at Walmart for kids’ furniture. The only reason you may be disappointed is if you’re looking for something exceptionally unique or stylish, which can easily be found somewhere like 2Modern instead.

Types: Various | Shipping Rates: $7.95-$9.95 or free when you spend $35 | Delivery Time: 3 business days shipping on most items | Return Policy: Returnable up to 10 days | Customer Service Options: Phone

Birch Lane Ventura Kids Twin Over Twin Bunk Bed

Birch Lane

What We Like

  • Frequent sales

  • Unique bed options

  • Cohesive pieces

What We Don’t Like

  • Can be difficult to navigate the site

Birch Lane—part of the Joss & Main, Wayfair, and AllModern family—has some of the most imaginative beds for kids we’ve ever seen, including this bunk bed that resembles a wooden playhouse. It can be a bit hard to get started on this site since there’s no kid-specific tab. But, when searching for kids’ beds, you’ll find over 100 options from cribs to twin-sized beds, and bunk beds. There are also plenty of changing tables, rocking chairs, and dressers available.

Birch Lane sells complete sets of furniture for a cohesive look, or you can mix and match them from their wide selection of furniture, linens, and decor pieces. For inspiration, check out their bedroom ideas page, which is full of rooms with distinct design directions.

They also have frequent sales that often include free shipping, so be on the lookout for opportunities to save on investment pieces and large furniture.

Types: Various | Shipping Rates: $4.99; free on orders over $35 | Delivery Time: Varies by item | Return Policy: Refund or store credit for 30 days | Customer Service Options: Phone, chat, shopping assistance

Lulu & Georgia Ellia Glider Chair

Lulu & Georgia

What We Like

  • Chic, design-forward options

  • Can be used in other rooms in your home

  • Great for accent pieces

What We Don’t Like

  • Not large furniture items specifically designed for kids

If you want your kids’ furniture and decor to have as much style as the rest of your home, look at the offerings from Lulu & Georgia. From drop-dead gorgeous wallpaper to sophisticated storage benches, their highly curated selection is irresistible. Want your kids’ room to have its very own (tiny) tufted velvet chair? This is the place to go for that and more statement-making decor pieces.

Compared to other options on this list, Lulu & Georgia has fewer furniture items that are specifically designed for kids. This is a great option to search when looking for small touches to make your kids’ room feel more luxurious and design-forward, including throw blankets, pillows, lamps, and rugs. You won’t find a large selection of beds and cribs here. However, we are impressed by the color options on this incredibly chic Ellia Glider Chair. Luckily, once your child outgrows their first bedroom, you can repurpose almost anything from Lulu & Georgia in other rooms in your home.

Types: Chairs, rugs, wallpaper, decor pieces | Shipping Rates: Depends on price of purchase | Delivery Time: 14-18 business days | Return Policy: Refund for 60 days | Customer Service Options: Message through website

Crate & Kids

Crate & Kids

What We Like

  • Entirely kids’ products

  • Easy navigation

  • Free design service

What We Don’t Like

  • Overwhelming selection

When Crate & Barrel rebranded its iconic store stores, it changed the name to Crate & Kids but didn’t lose any of the fun and whimsy furniture the original brand was known for. Looking for a stunning, stylish rattan bed frame your child can possibly have until college? They have it. Or a storage basket shaped like a giraffe? Yep, they have that too.

We love that the entire site is catered towards children, so the options are truly endless, but so is the organization. It’s extremely easy to use the categories to find exactly what you’re looking for, whether it’s lighting, toy storage, or rugs. If you’re low on inspiration, you can also book a free design appointment with one of the brand’s professionals to get advice, plan your space, and view your ideas in a realistic 360 virtual tour.

Be sure to regularly check the site for frequent sales and promotions, in addition to fun collaborations with celebrities, interior designers, and more.

What We Don’t Like

  • Long delivery windows

Monograms and mini chairs and bunk beds, oh my! Pottery Barn Kids has everything you could ever need to outfit your little ones with a perfectly put-together, sweet, and playful room. Beds, storage, dressers, and chairs can all be coordinated within collections for a cohesive approach, or mix and match your favorites for traditional-with-a-twist. Much of their furniture is made-to-order, so delivery windows can extend as far as a month out, and white-glove service is available.

There is endless inspiration on the website if you’re a bit stuck on a nursery design, but be warned, you can definitely spend hours on the site browsing everything it has to offer. Pottery Barn Kids is also a great gifting destination, with tons of toy options for every age. Another great plus, the site categorizes products by sustainability, so you can filter your search to only see GreenGuard Gold-certified, FSC-certified, recycled, or organic options. It takes all the guesswork out of shopping sustainably, so an eco-friendly kids’ bedroom is a possibility with little effort on your part.

What We Like

  • One-stop shop

  • In-person option

  • Extensive in-house brands

  • Lots of options

What We Don’t Like

Ah, Target. How do we love thee? We could count the ways, but we’ll just say that it’s easy to get carried away here, even when you’re shopping online. They’ve got furniture for kids of all ages, playroom essentials, beds, and storage pieces to suit any design aesthetic. Many pieces come with free two-day shipping, which is handy when you’re anxious to get to decorating!

Target is a great place to start if you’re on a budget. The site constantly highlights deals starting under $10 for decor pieces and special touches, rather than overall site sales. It’s extremely easy to filter your search to find exactly what you’re looking for and if you want to see an item in person before buying, just drive to your local Target. Thus, there’s something for every type of shopper.

Target’s in-house brand, Pillowfort, has chic modern nightstands, dressers, and beds, along with fun and colorful bean bag chairs and playhouses. We also love Target because you can go grocery shopping, pick up a new outfit, and find a fun game for the family all while redesigning your nursery.

What We Don’t Like

While you might know One Kings Lane best for their flash sales and expertly curated vintage offerings, they also have a fresh and modern selection of children’s furniture. If you want your kids’ room to feel almost too stylish, you’ve come to the right place. Eclectic mixes of texture, color, and patterns allow you to create a dreamy and imaginative space for your children to learn and grow.

You may have to do a bit of digging to find what you’re looking for; the navigation isn’t as intuitive as other sites when it comes to kids’ products. Still, once you find what you’re looking for, you’ll definitely be impressed. Because the options are so stylish, they’ll become staples in your home so you won’t mind spending a bit more dough. Design Life Kids Kimi Baby Bed Set

Design Life Kids

What We Like

  • Unique finds from around the world

  • Clothing and kitchen options available

  • Great for decor

What We Don’t Like

  • More pricey bedroom essentials

One of our favorite kid-specific online shops, Design Life Kids, has tons of unique finds from designers around the world. Create a global, eclectic vibe in your kids’ bedroom or playroom with rattan stools that have secret storage for a few toys and distinctive art and lighting you won’t find anywhere else. This is truly one-of-a-kind decor style for the youngest member of the family.

It’s easy to shop wall decor, rugs, chairs, bookshelves, and more, but you won’t find the same deals and steals as other retailers we love. Because it’s a more specialized boutique, be prepared to spend a bit more on a set of rattan hangers than you’d find somewhere else. Still, the unique finds like this bookshelf desk, are often worth the splurge because of the beautiful craftsmanship.

While shopping, you can also find adorable kids’ clothing, child-friendly dishware, and even a drinking bowl for your furry friend. We can spend hours on the site browsing all of the unique finds, so we know you’ll find something you love to cherish forever in your space.

Types: Various | Shipping Rates: $9.91+, free over $100 | Delivery Time: 7-14 business days | Return Policy: Returnable up to 14 days | Customer Service Options: Phone, online form

2Modern TipToe Bunk Bed

What We Like

  • Modern furniture

  • Lists sustainable brands

  • Price match

What We Don’t Like

  • Expensive options

For parents in search of truly modern, statement-making furniture for their kids, 2Modern should be your go-to online shop. Designers like Fermob, Blu Dot, and Knoll offer the kinds of sleek and interesting decor items you’ll keep for many years to come, long after your little ones have outgrown them. Heller even offers a colorful twisted polymer cube from their Frank Gehry Collection! Start ’em young, we say! (And for the record, this cube makes a modernist seating option for adults, too.)

Use the website’s filters to find cribs, seating, and storage options for your nursery or teen’s bedroom that prioritizes style. We argue that many options from 2Modern can easily transition into other rooms in your home when your child outgrows them, which justifies the often high price tags. What’s more, 2Modern offers a price-match guarantee, so if you find a lower price elsewhere, 2Modern will match it. We also love that the website lists which brands use sustainable practices, so you can curate your shopping experience with the Earth in mind.

Types: Various | Shipping Rates: Varies by order | Delivery Time: 3-5 business days | Return Policy: Returnable up to 30 days | Customer Service Options: Phone, email, chat

What We Like

  • Easy to navigate site

  • Design inspiration available

  • Generous return policy

What We Don’t Like

  • Expensive shipping

For the price, you simply can’t beat the Swedish home store for contemporary furniture finds. Yes, you’ll have to assemble it yourself. Yes, the shipping gets costly. But if you’re investing in a whole room’s worth of furniture, the total cost, even with shipping, will be far less than you’ll pay at other name-check-worthy stores.

We love that on the IKEA website, you can search by room, so it’s super easy to select “kids’ room” and start browsing. From there, choose from even more organized categories including beds, storage and organization, furniture, tableware, toys, and kid’s bedding. You can even browse design inspiration, depending on the vibe of the room you want to create for your child, from relaxed and playful to a teen hideout in a small apartment. You can’t beat IKEA’s site navigation, even if you’re dreading the inevitable hours of assembly time when your item arrives.

Types: Various | Shipping Rates: $6-49 depending on order size | Delivery Time: Depends on local IKEA | Return Policy: New, unopened products up to 365 days, opened products up to 180 days | Customer Service Options: Phone number of local store

Some online retailers are great for specific products, whereas others offer a range of items. That variety will serve you well if you’re trying to stick to a single website to outfit an entire room. Retailers that sell everything from bed frames to couches to dressers make the shopping experience so much easier.

Some of our favorite options, like Target, also sell other things so you can do all of your shopping in one place. If variety is a bit overwhelming for you, stick to a retailer that only sells kids’ products, such as Pottery Barn Kids.

Shopping online for anything, but especially furniture, can feel tricky. That’s why it’s so important to shop with retailers that have great photos from different angles. This can hopefully cut down on any buyer’s remorse, but also give you a better idea of how a piece of furniture might look in your current space. The same goes for measurements. It’s really key to read the descriptions and measurements to ensure the furniture can actually fit in a room and even through your home’s doorway.

Some retailers, like Crate & Kids, have 360 virtual renderings of pieces so you can see exactly how a toddler bed or nightstand would look in your space. Others offer a design assistant you can chat with to make a better-informed decision, even if the photos aren’t up to par. If you still can’t imagine a piece of furniture, opt for a retailer that has an in-person counterpart, such as IKEA.

Return Policy

Sometimes, even in spite of the most thoughtful purchases, it’s necessary to return an item. Before adding to your cart and purchasing furniture, be sure to check and double-check the store’s return policy. Some items are easier to ship back, but for heavier pieces like a bed frame or dresser, it’s convenient to have a return service that picks the item up at your doorstep. Just be aware, you will most likely have to disassemble and package your furniture item before you can return it. For some retailers, you’ll also have to pay a shipping cost, but this is worth it for the price of finding exactly what you want for your kids’ bedroom.

  • Should I involve my child in picking out their furniture?

For children who can vocalize their likes and dislikes, why not involve them in the furniture shopping process? They may have preferences when it comes to certain colors and styles. However, as a parent, you have more insight into what furniture items are functional but also have the potential to last through the years.

  • When is the best time to buy kids’ furniture online?

The time of year you shop for kids’ furniture can depend on so many factors. Spring and Fall can offer a range of new collections and designs being released. If you’re shopping with a budget in mind, then those early spring, late fall, and holiday sales can be a perfect time to finalize your decisions and take advantage of wallet-friendly home and furniture sales.

  • How much should I spend or invest in kids’ furniture?

Everyone’s idea of affordability is pretty subjective. It’s always best to determine whatever your specific budget is based on your wallet and your child’s needs. Some items like a bed frame for an older child might be worth more of an investment, whereas a trendy night table might be something you can save on.
