BT’s Adastral Park Robotics Lab — FAIR-SPACE

The FAIR-SPACE consortium partner from Surrey Space Centre at University of Surrey was invited to showcase at BT’s Adastral Park Robotics Lab official opening ceremony on 4 November 2021. The Surrey team (led by Professor Yang Gao and postdocs Dr Craig Pitcher/Dr Daniel Hao) have been collaborating with BT to leverage space technology to help address major technical challenges within the utility sector on Earth. This builds on the extra-terrestrial drilling techniques developed by the Surrey team/FAIR-SPACE project and develops industrial use-case or spin-off for trenchless robotic deployment of BT’s fibre cables. The collaboration also involves SME’s (like Synthotech Ltd) to potentially help industrialize the technology to meet terrestrial requirements.
