While we still don’t know a lot about Apple’s upcoming vehicle that has been dubbed as the “Apple Car,” the rumour mill is hard at work again. Fresh speculations about Apple’s upcoming electric vehicles include a windowless design, an illustration of which went viral on social media in the last week.
VRScout first reported on an Apple patent application for an in-car infotainment system built on the tenets of virtual reality. “Apple’s self-driving car could feature VR technology and no windows,” the Tweet said.
The image in this report showed a prototype rendition of the Apple Car from two years ago that was shared by Let’s Go Digital in December 2020. As Tom’s Guide rightly pointed out, the Apple Car in this image looks like a black Apple Magic Mouse “with wheels attached.”
Virtual reality on Apple Car
The rumours present Apple Car as a lightless, windowless car with passengers wearing virtual reality headsets. In the actual patent that first appeared two weeks on Patently Apple, Apple Car’s specifications seem different.

The new patent alludes to an AR/VR headset that is designed for self-driving cars. In this patent, it seems that users would be able to do basically all smartphone-level stuff in a car – ranging from video calls to watching films.
But Apple wants the experience to be more immersive. The patent specifically refers to virtual zombies that may chase a rider as the journey progresses. It seems that the experience would be tweaked, including a car’s acceleration and braking, to give the user an immersive experience. Apple Car could also sport 4DX touches including wind being blown into your face and more.

Worried about motion sickness? Don’t, at least that’s what the patent says. The Apple Car would employ the powers of the VR headset to give riders a virtual view of the outside world. Apple could produce an electric vehicle sometime around 2025.
