Screening of close contacts of those infected in the cluster areas is proceeding.
PUTRAJAYA: The health ministry reported 10 new clusters today, affecting Selangor, Sabah, Johor, Kuala Lumpur, Pahang, Melaka and Labuan.
Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the clusters are the Jalan Pandan Indah and DTI Sepang 2 clusters in Selangor; the Taman Ikan Jinak and Jalan Mawila clusters in Sabah; the Jalan Perak cluster in Johor; the Jalan Menerung and Jalan Yap construction site clusters in Kuala Lumpur; the Rantau Lada cluster in Pahang; the Pantai Peringgit cluster in Melaka; and the Mohammed Salleh cluster in Labuan.
The Jalan Pandan Indah cluster was detected in Hulu Langat, Selangor on Jan 17 through a targeted screening on a company. A total of 87 people have been screened, with 77 found positive.
The DTI Sepang 2 cluster in Sepang, Selangor was identified through a screening carried out at a detention centre in Jalan Pekeliling 4 on Jan 3. So far, 238 people have been screened with 80 testing positive.
The Taman Ikan Jinak cluster, involving the Tuaran and Kota Belud districts in Sabah, originated from a family celebration in Taman Ikan Jinak Melangkap Tiong, Kota Belud. The index case tested positive on Jan 12 after exhibiting symptoms and screenings on 46 individuals found 21 positive cases.
The index case for the Jalan Mawila cluster in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah was a navy staff who tested positive on Jan 13 before travelling interstate. Screenings on 130 other individuals detected 15 infections in total.
The Jalan Perak cluster is a workplace cluster in Johor Bahru, Johor. Cases were detected through a targeted screening on a factory in the Pasir Gudang industrial area on Dec 31. A total of 504 people have been screened, of which 35 tested positive.
The Jalan Menerung cluster is located in Lembah Pantai, Kuala Lumpur. The cluster was identified through a workplace screening involving security guards at Apartment One Menerung, Bangsar earlier today. Of the 26 people screened so far, 23 were found positive.
The Jalan Yap construction site cluster was detected in Titiwangsa, Kuala Lumpur. Cases from this cluster were found positive through a targeted screening on a construction site in Jalan Yap Kwan Seng, Kampung Baru earlier today. A total of 47 people have been screened and 21 tested positive.
In Pahang, the Rantau Lada cluster involves the districts of Temerloh and Maran. The index case tested positive on Jan 9 and had travelled from Selangor. A total of 58 people living around the index case’s residential area in Kampung Bukit Lada have been screened, of which 19 were found positive.
The Pantai Peringgit cluster, which involves the districts of Melaka Tengah and Jasin in Melaka, began when the index case living in Jalan Solok Pantai Peringgit tested positive on Jan 11. So far, 128 people have been screened and 24 were found positive.
The index case for the Jalan Mohammed Salleh cluster in Labuan tested positive on Jan 16 after returning from Sabah. Screenings on 423 people found another 12 infections, most of which were detected around the Labuan Industrial Training Institute.
There are now 292 active clusters out of a cumulative 651.
Three clusters officially ended today – the Bayam Indah, Jesselton construction site and Andalas clusters.
